Grant opportunities

The Water Center has provided funding to hundreds of researchers from Virginia's colleges and universities. Each year, the Water Center issues requests for peer-reviewed research proposals and funds several research projects on a competitive basis addressing critical water issues in Virginia.

Competitive grants

This program provides support for faculty and students at Virginia's colleges and universities to conduct cutting-edge research that addresses critical water issues in Virginia and the region.

The Water Center considers proposals for funding up to $20,000 per year and for project durations up to two years. The call for proposals is issued in late January with a submittal deadline of March 30. Successful proposals are announced by late May. The starting date for funded projects is July 1, with an ending date of June 15 of the following year.

Graduate student tuition match is required.

Challenge grants

The goal of this program is to promote research partnerships between private sector, local and state government agencies and Virginia's universities.

The Water Center provides a limited number of research or technology transfer challenge grants of up to $10,000 to faculty at ALL Virginia colleges and universities.
