3. A National Water Policy Event (Dialogue about National Water Policy)

July 28, 2009 -- (5:30 PM - 9:30 PM) -- U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, Auditorium, Capitol Hill, Washington, DC  -- The Chronicles Group/Running Dry project presents a dialogue about national water policy. A Call to Action version of the documentary, “The American Southwest: Are We Running Dry?” will be screened. Goal: To bring the executive and congressional branches of the U.S. government together with public and private sectors of the water industry, Native American community and other interested parties and provide a dialogue to discuss the urgent importance of the implementation of a Comprehensive Integrated Water Policy. 6. 25x25 Initiative Webinar

August 5, 2009 -- (10-11:30) -- This initiative seeks to get 25 percent of our energy from renewable resources like wind, solar, and biofuels by the year 2025. The webinar is open to anyone interested in learning more about this national initiative, learn of experiences from other states, and consider the potential opportunities and implications for here in Virginia. 7. Call for Poster Presenters -- 2009 Virginia Water Research Conference, Water Resources in Changing Climates

October 15-16, 2009 -- Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. – Poster Abstracts Accepted until August 7, 2009 -- This research conference will address the environmental, political, and economic changes we face as stakeholders, researchers, and managers of water resources. Basic and applied research posters are solicited in all areas related to understanding and managing water resources. 10. Water/Energy Sustainability Symposium at the Ground Water Protection Council (GWPC) Annual Forum

September 13-16, 2009 -- Salt Lake City, Utah – The forum brings together state and Federal agency representatives with the responsibility for ground water/drinking water protection with industry, researchers, and environmental groups in a congenial venue on the latest technology and policy developments. This symposium explores the complex relationships between water resources, quality, and sustainability, with energy development and generation, with the goal of informing policy decisions at state and federal levels. The gathering will investigate various energy sectors and their impacts on water quality and quantity, as well as those water-use-intensive institutions that need and rely on energy. 12. Symposium--Emerging Contaminants: Interactions with Mineral Surfaces, Environmental Transport, and Bioavailability

The symposium organizers invite participation by all who are interested in the topics. Those who wish to contribute to one or more of the sessions are encouraged to contact one of the three symposium organizers—Michael Thompson (S9; mlthomps@iastate.edu), Hui Li (S2; lihui@msu.edu), or Satish Gupta (S11; gupta002@umn.edu) to discuss possible topics and presentations.
