Under the Competitive Grants Program since 2012, the Water Center considers proposals for student research grants.
The call for proposals is issued between January and early March with a submittal deadline in March or April. The starting date for funded projects differs each year, but is typically between April and August, with an ending date about one year later.
Proposals are considered in all areas of water resources. Submitted proposals are reviewed and ranked by peers and a subset of members from the Water Center’s Technical Advisory Panel. Review criteria include intellectual merit, innovation, likelihood of success, broader impacts on Virginians, and alignment with state or regional water resources challenges.
