Virginia Tech Water Research Colloquium Brings Together Diverse Water Researchers

On October 23, 2024, the Virginia Water Resources Research Center (VWRRC) hosted the second annual Virginia Tech Water Research Colloquium. The event brought together 80 attendees from 12 different academic departments to share ideas and explore opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration on water-related research projects.

The colloquium began with an Open Space Technology discussion, facilitated by Erin Ling, (Sr. Extension Specialist and Program Coordinator, Virginia Household Water Quality Program; Biological Systems Engineering Department). Participants chose water research topics and shared insights, posed questions, and brainstormed potential collaborative projects they could pursue in the future.

The colloquium also featured a poster session with 25 graduate students presenting their water research. Topics spanned a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, agriculture, ecology, geosciences, and more.

VWRRC Director Kevin McGuire commented, “we had an inspiring discussion among faculty and graduate students from various disciplines across campus, all with interests and expertise in water resources. I believe this event, and others like it, will not only strengthen our water research community but also create new opportunities for engagement in research, training, and collaboration.”

The Virginia Water Resources Research Center hosts the Virginia Tech Water Research Colloquium annually to promote information sharing and collaborative research opportunities among the university’s diverse water research community.
