Water Center Interns Visit DC for NIWR Meeting and Capitol Hill Visits

In early February, Kora Bednar and Lauren Handley visited Capitol Hill as part of their Water Center internship! Kora and Lauren were accompanied by Water Center Associate Director Kevin McGuire and Associate Professor of Ecohydrology Daniel McLaughlin to the annual National Institutes for Water Resources (NIWR) Meeting and visits to Capitol Hill.

During the trip, they visited the offices of Virginia Representatives Morgan Griffith, Rob Wittman, and Jennifer Wexton. They also heard New Mexico Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury speak, attended an evening reception hosted by Van Scoyoc Associates, celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Water Resources Research Act (WRRA), and visited the Wharf and Washington Monument.

These visits are an opportunity for interns to meet with water researchers, policymakers, and participate in discussions with the 53 other water institutes from around the country!
